Dear Parents

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES 2008
The North Woodvale School Council has endorsed the schedule of Contributions and Charges for 208. The schedule is broken into four sections and will allow families to calculate all costs relating to education that they may incur throughout the school year. This is a requirement of the Education Act and will understandably be very useful in enabling families to budget for such an important area of their expenditure.

SECTION 1: CONTRIBUTIONS
The total amount of contributions parents and carers are being asked to pay in 2008 has been contained within the $60.00 maximum set in the School Education Regulations 2000.

Please note: The Mathematics section includes money for a text.

Money collected will be used to supplement school expenditure in the areas listed. The actual costs per child are shown in the table above. While Contributions are voluntary the quality of our teaching and learning program will be enhanced when each family makes a contribution to the cost of supplementing funding gained from other sources, including the State and Commonwealth Governments.

The costs outlined are for the whole school year and represents between $1.12c per week in Kindergarten to $1.50 per week in Year 7.

SECTION 2: CHARGES FOR EXTRA COST OPTIONAL COMPONENTS

A breakdown of estimated charges for your child’s participation in school visits, excursions, class activities etc for 2006have been included in the schedule below. Details on charges collected in previous years have been used to calculate costs for the 2006chool year. Students will only incur costs when they are involved in a particular activity. The amounts represent the maximum charged for scheduled activities in 2006. Built into the calculations is an amount for possible increases, which may be imposed by the suppliers.

As in the past you will be asked to make payment for each activity as it approaches.

The charges schedule includes costs associated with:

There may be a Year 7 Camp in 2008 which will result in extra costs for Year 7 students however  this has not been finalised at this stage.

Please note:  All schools, including ours, offer some services that incur costs but are not directly related to educational costs. These may be directly through the school or by way of the P & C and include School Photos, Ashton Scholastic Book Club, School Uniforms, Vacation Swimming, charitable collections (Red Nose Day, Go Casual for a Cause, Free Dress Days). These services are available to parents if they wish to make use of them. It could be helpful to include them in calculating up-front costs, although the actual costs vary and have not been estimated in our calculations.

SECTION 3: ITEMS FOR PERSONAL USE
You have already received a Personal Items List indicating what your child will need during the year. These can be purchased through any retailer although the P & C Association has negotiated competitive prices with Jackson’s Drawing Supplies.

SECTION 4: VOLUNTARY APPROVED FUNDS
Other voluntary funds at North Woodvale include a P & C contribution. This is set at $25 for the first child, $21 for the second child, $17 for the third child and $13 for subsequent children.  The school has a first class system, which would not have been possible without the support of the P & C. They also continue to support the 8 Learning Areas with the provision of resources to assist the teaching programs within all classes

PRINCIPAL’S CONCLUDING REMARKS

Parent’s support for the contributions section in 2007 was fantastic. The money budgeted to each Learning Area has been well spent.
There has been minimal increase to each year level.

The school now has its own credit facilities and payment can be made at the office or by completing the credit slip at the bottom of the account.
The School Council has approved part payment (by the term) if required. This can be arranged with the Principal.

We hope you will continue to support our decisions and be prepared to make these important contributions, as they will make a difference to the quality of education we can provide for your children.

Please be assured we will support parents by offering a range of payment options if this will assist with family budgeting.

If you require any further information or clarification please contact me or any member of the School Council.

Thank you for your tremendous support in 2007

Greg M Brice
Principal
