Health & Wellbeing

North Woodvale Primary School

At North Woodvale, we take a proactive and consistent approach to student health and wellbeing, creating a safe, supportive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and valued. We care about the mental health and wellbeing of our students, and we actively seek to build students’ sense of connectedness and belonging. This is supported through a range of initiatives, including:

We proudly embed the URStrong Friendship Program across all year levels to explicitly teach students how to build healthy friendships, manage conflict respectfully, and develop emotional resilience. This shared language supports a positive school culture and empowers students to navigate relationships with confidence.

Each morning begins with a wellbeing check-in, providing students with a chance to reflect on how they’re feeling and communicate with their teacher. These check-ins are a simple but powerful way to build connection and emotional awareness.

We also incorporate SDERA (School Drug Education and Road Aware) and Protective Behaviours programs to ensure students are equipped with essential life skills around personal safety, decision-making, and managing risk in a range of situations.

Finally, students use wellbeing diaries to set goals, reflect on their feelings, build emotional literacy and developing organisational skills.

Together, these practices support a whole-school commitment to fostering a positive mindset, emotional safety, and lifelong wellbeing habits.
